IF such a thing exists. We have several on our guest list who are diabetic and don't need alot of sugar. We have others on the list who are confirmed health food nuts and won't touch artificial sweetneners with a ten foot pole.
Obviously, I could do two desserts - one regular and one sugar-free, but I would really like to beat the odds and see if there is a dessert recipe - tried and true - to satisfy both camps.Need recipe for light, healthy dessert that does NOT have any artificial sweeteners in it?
You can try http://eatwell.com or http://allrecipes.com. The second site has a diabetic section and a healthy section. Maybe you could combine two recipes into one. I do it all of the time, and usually it turns out really good.Need recipe for light, healthy dessert that does NOT have any artificial sweeteners in it?
How about a dessert made with agave nectar. It's a natural sweetener that looks and taste like a mild honey but it's supposed to be safe for diabetics. It disolves easier than anything else and tastes so good! I use it more often than honey and maple syrup. I love that it doesn't cause blood sugar spikes even though I'm not diabetic and I love that it's natural(I hate artificial stuff) I just love it!
Some links to look at and recipes included but most recipes for sugar or honey can be used with agave:

if you make the desserts yourself, you can control the amount of sugar you have in your dessert and this way you can guarantee your diabetic guests that they are low sugar.
i would suggest making 1.chocolate mousse ( instead of melting store bought chooclate, you could add some cocoa powder instead-this doenst contain sugar)
2. angel food cake - reduce the sugar
3. cookies ( reduce sugar) in fact i like cookies that arent sweet and instead of using chocolate chips, you can use store bought dried fruits like cherries, peach, etc) or add some toasted nuts. almonds are the best. or oatmeals are yummy too, they make the cookie chewy.
4. crepes, for the filling you can use fresh fruits and the crepe batter usually doesnt call for sugar, if they do, leave out sugar ( i promise u wont taste any difference)
5. or you can buy the sugar free whipping cream and eat it with fresh fruits
6. cheesecake. cheesecake itself is usually already tasty, so you can leave out the sugar
I am a diabetic and serve pound cake slices with fresh fruit. Jello is a good answer and it does come in sugar free. Serve whipped cream on the side for those who want to cut the sugar.
You are a thoughtful hostess.
Make your own frozen yogurt.
Blend frozen strawberries or other mixed frozen fruit in your blender with your choice of yogurt and serve it with fresh fruit.
