What's your favorite healthy meal/recipe?

I am on a diet and am finding it difficult to find things to keep in the house that benefit both me and my husband. I would like to lose 30 pounds and my husband would like to gain as much as possible (he has muscular dystrophy). I can't deal with no bread, but am open to healthy substitutes. Also, what normal food is healthy without buying so much expensive diet food? What's your favorite healthy meal/recipe?
Let me recommend my three favorite healthy cookbooks: ';Simply Healthy,'; by UC Berkeley; ';The New American Plate,'; by the American Cancer Society; and ';Healthy Cooking for Two (or Just You)'; by Frances Price. These all have great, healthy recipes. The last one is really fast and easy, too.

I still believe the best diets are just plain healthy diets, leaving out no major food groups. Bean dishes are pretty cheap, and are healthy. You can make chili in a crock pot, with or without ground turkey, and that won't break the bank. My favorite healthy dish is salmon cakes with mango salsa, which isn't cheap but is delicious. I bet you could find a recipe online. Make a beef stew and double the root vegetables, but halve the beef to save money and increase nutrition.

You could try Weight Watchers. They give great nutrition advice and let you cook regular food. I wonder if your insurance would let you consult a nutritionist for your husband who could help you put a plan together for your whole family. Ask your doctor about this. Preventative medicine is the new big thing in insurance plans, and you might have that option and not even know it.What's your favorite healthy meal/recipe?

If you have a slow cooker...they are the best when it comes to eating healthy %26amp; cooking is easy. Even when you throw in all veggies, chicken, lean protein, etc...the flavors all come together and you get a tasty %26amp; healthy meal. Add fresh herbs at the end and Volia!
My favorite dish, or meal would be a spinach salad, tear up some spinach, diced celery, cucumbers, tomatoes, shredded beets, sweet potato, and carrot. Very healthy, and tastes great, get a low cal dressing and your on your way. You can also add some diced red bell pepper, or whatever your favorite veg's are.

Something that's very healthy and taste's great is steaming vegetables. Get a steamer.

I like to steam sliced beets, sweet potatoes, carrots, celery, cauliflower, etc. tastes great, very healthy, cheap, and no fat, you have to experiment with the seasoning though, mostly I just use freshly ground pepper and light salt.

There are electric steamers, or bamboo steamers, either will do the job. Steaming leaves the vitamins in the vegetables.

I like to dice up some apple, orange, banana, small bite size, mix with my favorite flavor yogurt. Cantaloupe taste's great with it also?

If you need to have bread, make sure it's whole wheat, or multi grain bread.

Try to eat meals that are no larger than your fist.

Get a book that lists the calorie and carbohydrate contents of foods, make a list of the lowest of each, design your meals around those foods.

Bon Apetite.
squash caserole and eggplant parmesian
Pasta or Noodles would be wise. Another wise decision would be to eat instant noodles. Instant noodles can be a bread substitute, and the seasoning can help your husband keep his weight up.
salad is good, soups are too, but aviod the creamy soups. one of my favourite plates is chicken with couscous and brocolli. rice is pretty good. drinking 100% juices and lots of water and milk.
Chicken breasts were key for me in losing 25 lbs these past 4 months. You would be amazed at what you can whip up with chicken! Stir-fry, glazed, put it in salads with a vinagarette dressing, chicken tacos. The possibilities are endless! Good luck!
healthy food is expensive, i give you that..but you dont have to spend a fortune..get the off brands of stuff and frozern veggiesare usually a little cheaper than fresh, better than canned..frozen is fine...fruit is well priced..apples and oranges..are usually pretty decent..just when you cook, dont use as much butter or oil and use lots of pam cooking spray..ground turkey is usually cheaper by the pound than hamburger and is tasty to boot..
For low calorie, I like chicken %26amp; vegtables stir-fry.
